Bangladesh Deforestation Real-Time Monitor

Satellite-verified forest loss hotspots (2024-2025) | Data: Global Forest Watch, Yale Geospatial, Bangladesh Forest Department

2,027+ acres destroyed (Cox's Bazar) 24.5M kg firewood/month from forests 220 hectares lost in Sal Forest (2024)

Sal Forest Crisis (Central BD) Critical

Yale Geospatial Study (1995–2025): Tropical moist deciduous forest near Dhaka declined massively. Landsat analysis confirms rapid deforestation for brick kilns & real estate. 2024 loss: 220 hectares natural forest → 65 kt CO₂ emissions.

Cox's Bazar & Rohingya Camps

Ongoing crisis: 1.4 million Rohingya rely on firewood. ~24.5 million kg of wood cut monthly from protected forests. 2,027 acres of planted & 4,136 acres of natural forest destroyed since 2017. 67 Asian elephants affected; 13 killed in human-elephant conflicts.

Sundarbans Mangroves

The world's largest mangrove forest threatened by shrimp farming (~57,000 hectares lost historically) + climate change + blue carbon pressure. 2.5 million livelihoods depend on it, but seasonal bans paradoxically increase illegal foraging.
